PhoneGap : Create Apps Using Web Technologies

PhoneGap is a free and open source mobile development framework based on Apache Cordova. It is one of the most popular mobile development frameworks at the moment. PhoneGap lets you create mobile apps using standardized web APIs for almost all popular platforms such as Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Bada etc. You can build apps for the supported platforms using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. To put it simply, you develop your application using these web languages and utilize native functionality using PhoneGap APIs and then PhoneGap bundles all these into deployment packages that are appropriate for your target platform. Hence, if you are already skilled in these web technologies, building a mobile app with PhoneGap will be much easier than learning native languages for the platform you are targeting. What’s more, you can pretty much publish the same app for multiple platforms with minimal modifications, which can save you a lot of time.

Another powerful feature of the framework is its plugin support. They enable a communication between the JavaScript and native codes, thereby allowing you to utilize various device specific functionality such as camera, accelerometer, file system etc.
